Remuneration: £67,000 per annum FTE
plus £1,000 per annum - working from home allowance
plus £2,000 - joining bonus

The Senior ADHD Specialist Independent Prescriber plays an advanced clinical role in Psychiatry UK’s ADHD service, managing patient presentations and contributing to safe, high-quality prescribing practice. Reporting to the Team Lead and working closely with Consultant Psychiatrists, the role focuses on the independent or supplementary prescribing of ADHD medication and ongoing treatment of adult patients, in line with NICE guidelines and Psychiatry UK clinical policies.
Senior Prescribers bring significant experience in ADHD management and apply a high level of clinical judgment in titration, risk management, and long-term prescribing. They support the wider team by contributing to multidisciplinary discussions, sharing expertise, and mentoring peers or new joiners to maintain consistency in clinical standards.
This is a home-based role (applicants must reside in the UK), though occasional travel may be required for face-to-face meetings at various locations within the UK.
As our Senior ADHD Specialist Independent Prescriber, you will:
- Provide safe, effective, and evidence-based prescribing for ADHD patients in accordance with national guidance and internal protocols.
- Independently complete End of Titration Reviews (EOTRs) and annual medication reviews, ensuring clinical clarity and continuity of care.
- Communicate with patients through Psychiatry UK’s secure portal, offering clear and clinically sound responses to medication queries.
- Exercise independent or supplementary prescribing rights confidently, with appropriate use of professional boundaries and escalation when needed.
- Participate in multidisciplinary discussions with Consultants, prescribers, and operational colleagues to support joined-up patient care.
- Offer support or mentoring to less experienced prescribers, including case discussion, guidance, and shared learning.
- Conduct regular risk assessments, monitor safeguarding concerns, and escalate according to Psychiatry UK’s procedures.
- Keep accurate, timely clinical records in line with legal and professional standards.
- Engage in audit, quality improvement, and clinical governance processes, particularly related to prescribing practice.
- Stay current with ADHD-related legislation, clinical developments, and Psychiatry UK policies, and proactively engage in CPD.
- Contribute to the refinement of prescribing and titration processes, drawing on practical experience and patient feedback.
To succeed as our Senior ADHD Specialist Independent Prescriber, you will have:
Advanced prescribing skills and sound clinical judgment in ADHD medication management, strong knowledge of medication pathways including side effect management and treatment adjustments, excellent communication skills for delivering high-quality remote care, confidence in discussing complex clinical scenarios in MDT forums, a commitment to accurate documentation and patient confidentiality, awareness of safeguarding principles, and high digital literacy with proficiency in electronic patient records and secure messaging systems.
Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Registered Nurses
First-level registered Mental Health nurse (RMN) or
First-level registered nurse (Adult Nurse/Children’s Nurse/Learning Disabilities Nurse) (with one year post qualification Secondary Mental Health service experience or further training - desirable).
Must have Independent & Supplementary Non-Medical Prescribing (V300) qualification with 1-year post-prescribing qualification experience.
Minimum 4 years of clinical experience in ADHD prescribing roles (private or NHS), including titration, medication reviews, and long-term management of ADHD treatment.

Registered Pharmacist with Non-Medical Prescribing Qualification
Minimum 4 years post qualification secondary mental health service experience or further training or post prescribing qualification experience in Specialist ADHD service (Specialist ADHD experience can include working within private and/or NHS practice) or equivalent.
ADHD experience must include managing ADHD patients with prescribing responsibilities, including medication initiation, titration, review, and long-term management.
(Secondary mental health services are defined by there is a need for a GP referral to the service. Secondary mental health experience includes inpatient care, community mental health teams, psychological wellbeing services, crisis resolution and home treatment teams, assertive outreach teams and early intervention teams)
Desirable Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Additional training or postgraduate qualifications in mental health, prescribing, or neurodevelopmental disorders.
- Experience working with complex or treatment-resistant ADHD cases.
- Experience in remote clinical service provision or digital healthcare environments.
Desirable Knowledge and Skills
- Familiarity with clinical audit and quality improvement processes.
- Experience using ADHD rating scales and validated clinical tools.
- Comfort with working in a dynamic, technology-enabled clinical environment.
- Ability to support the development of peers through knowledge-sharing and informal mentoring.
