Information Governance Assistant
United Kingdom (Remote)
Reporting to: Head of Information Governance and Data Protection Officer.
Remuneration: £29,000 – 32,000 per annum - plus £1000 working from home allowance.
Working in: The Information Governance Team
Contract Type: Permanent/Full time – 40 hours per week.
Location: Home-based/various UK meeting locations as required.

The Information Governance Assistant role is a fast-paced and evolving position that requires motivation, enthusiasm, and a strong commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
The Information Governance Assistant will work both independently and under supervision, demonstrating initiative, adaptability, and a proactive approach to developing new skills.
This is a home-based role (applicants must reside in the UK), though occasional travel may be required for face-to-face meetings at various locations within the UK.
As our Information Governance Assistant, you will:
Provide operational support to the Information Governance (IG) Team in the day-to-day administration and delivery of data protection and information governance activities across the organisation.
Assist in the management of information rights requests, including Subject Access Requests (SARs), as well as supporting data protection compliance activities, records management processes, training administration, and governance reporting.
This role is ideally suited to someone looking to develop a career in Information Governance or Data Protection within a regulated healthcare environment.
The Information Governance Assistant will work under the supervision of senior IG colleagues and will not be expected to make decisions on complex data protection matters.
Key Responsibilities:
Information Rights Records Support
Provide administrative support for Subject Access Requests (SARs) and other information rights requests, including logging, acknowledgement, tracking deadlines and document collation.
Assist with basic redaction of records in line with guidance and templates.
Maintain accurate information rights logs and trackers.
Support retention and records management activities in line with organisational policy.
Data Protection and IG Administration
Maintain IG registers, including:
Data breaches/incidents
DPIAs and risk registers
Data processing agreements and supplier records
Assist with the coordination and follow‑up of data incidents, including evidence collation and action tracking.
Support preparation of routine IG reports, dashboards, and metrics.
Assist in evidence gathering for DSPT and internal/external assurance activities.
Training and Awareness
Support administration of IG and data protection training, including:
Training records
Compliance tracking
Follow‑up communications.
Assist with maintaining IG content on SharePoint or internal systems.
Governance and Team Support
Provide general administrative support to the IG Team, including meeting coordination and minute‑taking where required.
Respond to routine queries from staff using approved guidance and escalation routes.
Escalate complex, high‑risk or unusual matters promptly to senior IG colleagues.
To succeed as our Information Governance Assistant, you will be:
Discreet and trustworthy, with a methodical and well-organised approach to their work. They will be able to follow established procedures and escalation routes, and feel comfortable working to deadlines in a structured environment. Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
Strong administrative and organisational skills
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to handle personal and sensitive data confidentially.
Good written communication skills
Confidence using IT systems, spreadsheets, and document management tools.
Willingness to learn and develop knowledge of UK GDPR and Information Governance
Comfortable working in a busy and pressurised environment.
Desirable Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
Previous experience in:
Healthcare, regulated environment
Awareness of:
UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018
NHS or healthcare environments
Experience supporting records, audits, or governance processes.
